On the color thing, what I have always been told is that it does not matter until it matters. Over the years of creating my own handties things have changed and shifted, I rarely use traditional black and chartreuse anymore, not sure why! I do know I have four boxes of different combinations that a certain lake in the cross timbers area of Texas has forced me to create. Seems like every year they want something just a little different, could be fishing pressure, lake levels, water clarity and number of conditions. I do know I have ay least 75 different variations that have caught over 25 fish at a given time on that lake. I do believe every lake has its little quirks and enough time on the water and you will have those figured out. Hook size I have been using a 2/0 in my 1/4 ounce heads and once those stick no worries about a net. Fun to read everyone thoughts and preferences on these things!

Sometimes people who fish with you think it is on purpose as well, especially when you are behind on the ketching count.

Crappie are an easy fish to catch most of the time. No special skills required actually. They are a good species to start out kids to fish for and a consistent fish for professional guides to make a living guiding for. Plentiful and seem to always be eating somewhere. Can be caught over structure and out in open water in the winter months here in the south.

As far as hook size, color, presentation or use of nets, electronics etc----to each his own. Personally I like having as many options available to me when the bite is hard to get and THAT does happen if you fish year round like a bunch of us do. 14 degree days to 100 degree days, it can vary a lot.

I like to hook onto the boat and drive to a lake I don't know at all and test my skills-already know how to catch fish on the local lakes so find it's not as much of a challenge and I like being able to hone my skills and challenge myself on bodies of water I don't know. Sometimes I do good and sometimes I don't but always have as many options as I can to give myself the best opportunity to do well.

Love this sport and ALL that it offers both from with the people who are in it and to all the different offerings that companies provide us with to keep doing it a high level.

Crappie fisherman are the BEST and to attract more people to do this and grow the sport we need as many options as possible to attract as many people as possible. Companies will the take notice and give us even better equipment to use.

Just my $.02 worth and not looking to offend anyone here but rather trying to grow this. If that happens-we all win.
