    Default Be careful out there.

First I thank God for riding with my brother and I today. We decided to try to bass fish off the Sabine river this morning. Left landing about 10:30. Waited for the temp to come up. Headed to a place to try about 10 minutes from the landing. Making the last turn into the canal I hit something underwater. Had slowed down and wasn't even on plane. Probably would still be out there if I was running hard. Knocked a hole in the bottom of the boat about a foot in front of the transom almost dead center. Hole is about 5 x 1 inches. Never did see what we hit. Luckily did not hit the motor. I just put the prop on after repairing it from a rock at a boat landing. Then came the fun of getting back. The boat was going down fast, and our feet got wet. Tried to plane thinking maybe the plug came out. But on plane it was taking on water faster than the bilge could handle. Slowed down and still filling to fast at idle for the bilge. Had brother sit up front and found a speed that the level started receding. Took 50 minutes to get back, but we made it. Anyway, it has been a terrible time since we moved back to La. With hurricanes, house and fence damage, rolled and destroyed our rv and now this. I have now claimed on every type insurance I have except life. LOL. Hope that is not in the works soon. Pics show the hole from the ground under the trailer. In one picture is a plastic battery post cover. Stopped for an estimate on the way home, will know tomorrow. Will weld a patch.

Glad no one was hurt. Looks like it could be patched but on the other hand its a good excuse for a new boat.

Have forgotten the plug at least one time. So after that, was with my neighbor, when he forgot his. Was told by an uncle, when it happens, to start it up and go on plane to let the water out, then put the plug in, and it does work.

So my point is, if pulling your plug out, even though you have a hole in boat, it should have helped to get the water out, to keep you a float.

Glad your safe. Nothing will take your mind off of fishing like focusing on staying afloat. Been there twice.

So sorry "D" to see your boat got damaged, glad to see your OK. although we do not know each other we both share something - Hurricanes! So here, I very gingerly run around lately, especially with the super low tides. Our Hurricane added debris to the waterways & rivers here and moved around the trees we already knew about. Every major storm my Butt Pucker Factor increases until the places we run are side scanned to know it's safe to really hook it up.
