Here in Texas we are in our yearly backslide . The winter fish are getting jumpy and starting to move here and there scattered out . One really good winter spot has a water temp that has already risen 10 degrees .
The backslide is under way and the avid crappie anglers here are now in a struggle to keep up with the changes . In some lakes the fish have moved miles already and are scattered like leaves in the fall winds .
Many of the professionals are having issues staying up with them and even when they are located they are in the not very willing to cooperate mode quite often .I myself have thought this year and the end of 2020 were unusual in many spots i frequent and as of late the crappie fish are really getting tough to put in your hand . Now mind you it isnt every spot and there are places to still ketch them pretty well , but the hammer out limits places are not near as productive as past times .
This is just a heads up to not let it get you down and the good times are near . Next month should bring a few to the shore on a few different lakes .
the struggle is real ...this much i know

I enjoy his post too and I’m thinking they are a couple weeks ahead of us but I’m not sure. All I know is Ketchn speaks, I listen!
The crappie fishing is starting to pick up here but with these cold fronts blowing thru every four days it only allows one day out of four bearable for my old bones to get on the lake. Hard to keep up on the crappie during this on again off again transition time of year. Been hard finding any area at all the fish are holding in consistently.

I heard tell from one one of my buds the other day a story that made me laugh .
He and I are much the same in the pursuit and he was so desperate that day to ketch just ONE crappie .
He was talking to me at the end of his visit to the lake and said just one 6 incher would make him happy
i told him about a trip a week or so back where i had to get out of the boat after 3 hours of NOT a peck and go ketch one off the bank just so i could say i didnt get skunked

It's been so bad even the bluegill are refusing to bite! I've never had bluegill refuse to bite until last week. Same story as crappie, you could see them but they would not bite.

Any day I'm fishing is a good day, regardless of what I catch.

Wish you would tell the crappie that! I went to my slips three times this week and only caught 2 small bass for the three trips. Yesterday I only saw two fish in my main siip and less than a dozen when I switched to forward view at 80' to look at the slips next to mine. Talked briefly with the marina manager and was told they are not at the fish barge nor the other docks yet. Said he had not caught anything this week.
