For my 14’ Jenko spider trolls I believe I have Diawa sweepfires. I’d have to go out to the shop to look. But they are front drag Diawa I know. Caught thousands with them over the years and still going strong.

What is the best spinning reel for vertical jigging?

IMO if you aren't casting jigs and reeling them in, only dropping them and fishing, it really doesn't make much difference. I've got some cheap ones from Amazon that I use for long lining and they've held up for 3 years of pretty heavy use. I also bought one from Amazon that isn't worth putting on a rod. Depends on how much you want to spend, but unless you wear it out catching "off' species like big cats, or drum, you aren't going to wear a decent spinning rod out by vertical jigging.
Got to add something here......I have purchased 36 reels from china off eBay in the last 7-8 years. Fishing 10# test line they have worked ok. Just OK. Here is the rub, the 10# line is because we regularly catch Red Fish as heavy as 10 pounds while jigging for Sac-a-lait. Monster "Goo's" too. Well the chinese reel drags are horrible. Recently we have had a abundance of clear water to fish in the rivers except the Pearl. I had to go down in line size and combined with poor drag performance you better be ready to point the rod tip at the fish or get broke off. They really add twists in the line too, rollers in the bail rarely work. Anyway long winded response, for a better drag I recently started buying the 10-100-1000 sized Quantum reels in the $35 range for light line rigging and the drags are like $100 reels. Looking forward to hunting a Slab for my wall with them on Barnett this spring, I put them on my main SOLO's.
I have fallen in love with the pflueger president xt. Size is f20. Its silky smooth and has a great drag when you occasionally get into a big bass or something. I vertical jig but often go the the bottom and reel up as slow as possible so I use my reels a lot.

Another vote for the Diawa sweep fires, but mine are the older models. I have 6 presidents, that kinda speaks for itself. If you want a better reel, the Diawa regal is getting a lot of good reports. If I’m vertical jigging I look for a reel that balances well so that I don’t have to hold the tip of the rod up. Once that weight is found I look for the best I can find in my price range. Bigger spools have smoother drags, usually. Storing cheaper reels with the drag a bit looser helps mine last a long time and still slip when they need to. My two cents.

I do more casting than vertical jigging so echo the comments on the Daiwa Regal LT and Presidents (prefer older 6925s or 6930s.) When I do vertical jig it's almost always with a rear seat rod and Eagle Claw in line reel from Grizzly Jigs.

I should also mention that when I don't use a rear seat rod I use a casting (not spinning) rod with a reel that has a flipping switch on it. Almost never use a spinning outfit for vertical jigging.
