I love all 3 of my Shimano reels , the Saharas are real nice in the small to medium size range
I am in the market to buy couple of decently good reels. I have a pflueger 20 series I like but the spool is too small diam and corkscrews the line. I buy Trilene xl 4lb. I bought couple 25’s. Liked them. Gear got against housing in one, and other always little issues. I want smallish 7oz reel. Largest diam spool possible, 5ish-1 ratio. Dont see the need to pay outlandish $$ for Crappie reel. Lets keep price under $75 for sure and would like to be in $50 range. Have couple Shimano Sedona 1000 series, hav had good luck with them just lil too big and worried if I step down n size I will get the little Spool like on Pflueger 20 series. What are some suggestions
I need to add, I fish clear water lake mostly. This time year I can vertical jig. But when crappie lil shallower, I hav to set off the structure and cast 25-30ft

I use Shimano Siennas. Lew's makes some nice ultralight reels too.
I like my Pflueger President 25 really well.
Siennas for me, Price is great, very smooth.
I prefer Daiwas. Check out the Regal LT in the size you want.

I suggest looking into the Okuma selections. Great, smooth reels. Different price ranges.

Which line are using and are you winding it on correctly? Not saying you are a beginner, but putting the line on incorrectly will cause corkscrews all the time. The line plays a big role in it as well. For my lighter lines in the 4b range I like Trilene xl smooth casting. I've had it on small diameter spools with zero issue.

FISHING is my PASSION!
I have presidents from 20 size to 35(I think) and while I like em all they aren’t the be all and end all of good affordable reels. For the reels you’ll hold in your hand all day the most, I would spend a little extra. I have two and they’re out of production but smooth business. The more bearings you can get for the money will pay you back. From what I’ve handled, smooth starts at about 7 bearings and of course, the price goes up with that. The biggest piece of advice I can offer you is to not buy anything you don’t handle on the rod you intend to use it on. Smooth ain’t worth squat if it doesn’t balance on YOUR rod. Good luck finding what you’re after.

In a local sporting goods store the other day, I saw where they had a sale going on Zebco Ultra Light rigs with the little Zebco 33 reels loaded with 6lb line and "Bite Alert" for about $15 each. I bought two of them, told the guy at the counter "I guess I will put these on the pile". He told me "No, no, try 'em, they are so much fun for crappie, I promise they will surprise you".
He was right.
Sensitive galore. An excellent addition to the arsenal, and fun too!
As someone mentioned about winding your line, I just recently bought one of those line winders that you put your reel on and properly put on a spool of line, and it works great. I recommend watching any of the videos on it that explains direction of the spool, tension, and other useful info. Got mine off Amazon for about $15. No more "Honey, hold this spool for me...".
