The images everyone was raging about were in fact Oculas and not Humminbird.
An Oculas transducer cost upwards of 25k.

Personally I'm not all that brand loyal , I look at what I think my money will be best spent on and what I want and go from there. Currently have a dual stack on the bow of my boat with a 12" German on top and HB 10" helix on bottom , each serve a purpose . When and if some electronics company come out with something that WOWs me more then what I have I'll go check with wife to get the OK on new play pretties !
I'm sure that image quality will be greatly improved in future models ( not sure if it will be new transducer technology or Head unit resolution ) guess only time will tell but I think it's safe to say based on the constant progression of ALL electronics some exciting stuff is still to come. ( assuming you get excited by this sort of stuff ) I like seeing fish on electronics and the whole new world of information that LIVE sonars bring to the table so personally I'll be eager to see what's next .
, whoever come up with it !!
Just wish I had bought some Garmin stock two years ago

The best SI sonar I’ve ever personally seen was a Klein 4900 on a search and recovery boat. I think the sonar unit was around 30 grand.
Don’t know if that included the software. The screen was 32 inch.
I sure the davit used to lower it in the water was extra. Recovery made with it in over 1500 feet of water.
Still had to run 3-6 mph to get best image.
Guess my point is, the technology has been around for a good long time but companies haven’t been able to produce them so they are affordable for recreational use.
