Any idea on backwards compatibility for the Helix Gen 2s or Gen 3s?
Is this a transducer connection or an ethernet connection at the graph?
Thanks
I’m not real impressed with what I saw, but it’s still cheaper for me to keep my order because everything else I have will work with it. I’d have to buy a screen to run livescope.
Wonder if they will or is it possible to add a box later if you want better images? I could see that as an upgrade down the road.
I almost bought Mega 360 last year. Kinda wish I had now.

I’m pretty sure that Active Target claims they narrowed the cone angle to 18deg for what they call is a better image. Didn’t work for them. Don’t know about Humminbird.
Like Rickie said, they should of and will have to use a separate processor(black box) instead of relying on the head unit to handle all the data.

Guess that would depend on how you fish. I am a humminbird guy myself but they are at least 3 years behind Garmin on this project(technology) and I’m sure they have their interest protected. Garmin will update and always be ahead of them in my opinion. Probably won’t get much better image but will address inherent problems more seriously like Ghost tree and others they haven’t had much success at so far.
Marine products are only a small fraction of Garmins industry. Only been in the marine game a few years and look how far they have come.

I was really hoping I’d be able to quit trolling in the summer and go back to just jig fishing. I’d like to learn to fish a couple small rivers around me and I believe this can help. Hatchie and Wolf river. There’s zero pressure on rivers. Just have to avoid the carp.

From what I know Garmin holds all the patents on this technology so anyone wanting to get into the FFS game is using Garmin licensed technology . Seems like Garmin will alway have a leg up as long as these systems are the only option for forward looking sonar. I would suspect the only reason other companies are doing what they are doing is to not look as if they are falling behind and ride the wave with brand loyal customers

[QUOTE=Truman_Sully;4146578]I totally agree.
They sold Lawrence what they first introduced that was a flop and probably what Humminbird has put out now. You can look up the patent.
There aren’t going to allow the others to ever be as good as their product.
As you said, only trying to appease them and their loyal customers. Others will always be a few steps behind.
Strictly my opinion.
Chuck.

HB will be better than Garmin at some point, then it’ll go back and forth. Competition will make a better product for us all.
I emailed Brian at BBG and he said he’s been told late August mid September. So there’s a chance this isn’t the finished product.

Brian is a good guy. I buy my stuff from him too.
However, mark my words, I’ve been telling everyone it will be the 4th quarter of the year since the big Mega live rage was announced.
Sorry, what you see is as good as it gets until Garmin allows them to use their technology. Then Garmin will advance leaving Lowrance and Humminbird with table scraps from old technology. Compare transducer of Bird and Lowrance. Look similar?
Garmin could buy and sell both of those companies 10 times over.
That may happen too.
Johnny Morris is a perfect example.
Again, just my opinion. Everyone has one.
Thanks,
Chuck
