I have only seen one 3lb crappie in my life and that was in the early 70's. My dad and his buddy caught him on with a trotline with goldfish as bait. I have seen some that would come close but never one over 3 lbs.
Reminds me of a quick story
was in the store buying minnows one day and 2 guys asked if I was going crappie fishing. Told them yes, then one of them said "I heard they caught a new world record recently, 13 lbs.!"
I was like, no man, that's like over twice what the previous record would be and he just as serious as he could be said "yeah, I know it"
still laugh about it

I’ve caught two over three pounds at Kentucky lake over the 32 years I’ve been going there. Last one was in 2015.
