Fairly new to crappie fishing and was wondering how many times do you pull across a school or structure without hits before you move on to another area? I can mark fish that appear to be crappie, sometimes a huge school, but often only get 1 or 2 to bite. Then it stops and after multiple pulls across the same area, no takers. I know that it depends on a multitude of factors, but I was wondering if some of you more experienced crankers have any insight? How many minutes do you give after no hits? How often do you change color? How many fish usually bite out of a school for you?
Thanks for the insights!
If I Mark a school of what I believe to be crappie and don’t get bit the 1st pass, I’ll change directions and come at the Mark from several different directions. I call it wagon wheel. I’ll make 4-5 passes if it is an area that typically produces.
I don’t change colors as often as some but I start out with all different colors until fish tell me what they want.
I’ve had as many as 6 keepers hooked at one time on a crank spread and 4 at once lots of times. I don’t go out expecting that. Those are the rare times that make memories. 1-2 are much more typical.
