Does it matter what species of minnow for crappie? I am going to trap them

I wouldn't think so, as far as the Crappie are concerned. It probably matters more on their size, at times. HOWEVER ... the specie of "minnow" you trap may not be LEGAL for use in waters where it does not reside. And introduction of certain invasive species into waters where they are not present is illegal. It's always best to trap bait from the actual waters they are going to be used in, unless otherwise denoted as illegal for use or possession.
It's also illegal in some cases to trap "minnows" that may be endangered, vulnerable, or threatened. Best be able to identify the species before using them or transporting them, and know the state rules on their possession or use.
