If you look up "fish louse" images you'll find some that look like that. There seem to be several different types called that.

Not a crappie but I pulled this bluefish out of the water and as I was cleaning it I found this. Any idea what it is? A parasite?

It is a tongue-eating louse. Find them here and there on blues and striped bass, a couple flounder. Look up cymothoa exigua on Wikipedia.

As far as I know they are only in the mouth and gills, not the meat.
bluefish are mean critters , one took the tip off my finger off the coast of NJ when we lived up there .
