Default Lite wire vs sickle hook

Seems like I am satisfied with #2 Lite wire hook. I know some really good crappie fisherman that won’t use anything but a sickle hook on their jigs. I have used them and caught fish. Just can’t really tell any difference. What is yall’s opinion on using conv hooks vs sickle hooks?

Been using sickles since they first came out. Just seem to get better hook ups overall with deeper penetration. Just like a lot of other things it boils down to personal preference and individual experience.

Can't really say much one way or the other. I use sickle hooks just out of habit now. I catch plenty of fish with round hooks too.

lite wire penetrates better but sickle stays attached longer.

I don't want a hook that bend, lose too many fish.....IMO

BUT you will have to get good at knowing the difference between structure and a bite......

On any tackle question, this is the correct answer:

I can agree with this. Really difficult, sometimes, to get a good gill off a sickle.

i like sickle hooks , but i am not sold on them being any better than a j hook in lite wire .
a hook is mostly defined by the operator in my opinion .
i dont care for a hook that bends out either , but i also dont like one thats breaks .

All I can state is my preference. I’ve done very well on sickles, and landed some very nice fish on small sickles. When I used conventional hooks I lost many more when the size was similar.

Doesn’t really matter to me. I catch fish pretty good with both. I even bend my sickles open a little more sometimes.
