Default This brave new world makes me often quite sad

Stopped at a spot I like a lot on my way home yesterday . The fish were typical in the summer pattern set up . The local crappie anglers were already there with them rear seat reels and fly rod looking set ups .
The fish were on when I got there and getting bigger and better when I left . My wife decided to do a little rock hounding up the way from me a bit . After a few minutes ….
She sends me a photo of a SNAKE !
Now mind you I love snakes , all species of them have always fascinated me . I got real good whoopings as a 4 year old for bringing them home from the bayou where number one …
    I wasn't supposed to go and number 2 …
for sure not allowed to play with SNAKES
Anyway it saddened me beyond belief to think someone broke the neck on this beautiful king snake . The version that lives in these parts is a kinda hybrid …
its a desert crossed to a speckled and they are really pretty and highly sought after as pets . I told her number one WOW someone killed a 50 dollar bill and to make it worse really hurt the local environment taking it out of the ecosystem .
Rant over ...fish were holding at about 10 foot deep on top of and in the brush in 12 to 14 foot of water and the bite was super difficult to detect .
Ketchn score in one hour was 14 with a few larges in the mix and a bunch a smalls . I opted for 3 different baits and the firecracker ribbon tail produced the best of takes and larger fish. Ran it on an unpainted B n M red hook 1/16 jighead ,6 lb mono and my trusty 6 foot fiberglass as a stick .
KABOOM is the word and again I say BE KIND , live and let live yawl , that snake didn't need killing

I have been tramping thru woods my whole long life and have seen just a few snakes out there and leave them be. snakes are a good thing in environment and doesn't take much to walk around them.

I am right there with you on the snakes, my neighbor and I as kids had a snake collection that we took care of a fed them. We had over 30 in his side yard.

About 10 years ago I found a King Snake like the one in your picture, but was just a baby then. After that I got to see him for 5 or 6 years getting bigger and bigger every year. Then I don't know what happened to him, maybe got in the brush on the burn pile? Don't know at all and I looked for him a couple more years but never say him again. I will also tell you I live on the water and while he was here I never saw another make on my land! I would love to have another King snake to keep other away! Couple year ago I killed a huge cottonmouth on my deck and that was after my King Snake disappeared. Few weeks ago there was another huge cottonmouth on the bank when I went down there, was big enough I heard him moving before I saw him.

    Sorry about your snake.
Nice fish, think your getting the hang of it!LOL
On snakes my only rule is no Rattlers or copperheads in the yard.
6 foot diamond backs, 3-4 foot timbers are common at my place.
    To many kids, Gkids, ....

to be sure i have the utmost of respect for the venomous versions , my son in laws crew member just got out of he hospital for putting his hand where he shouldn't have 2 weeks ago .
i understand the removal of the dangerous versions and also know alot of people that just flat dont care for snakes . i was just in a moment of sadness over the king snake . like skip said they keep away bad things like poisonous snakes and rodents .

Yep, even snakes have a place in the grand scheme of things...But rattlers need to find another place to carry on, other than the place where I is.
