I hear ya brother. I guess that a part of why I have 28 rods & reels. Some are VERY specialized. A big part of that mind set is from years of tournament fishing. Time is money lol.

not sure what version you have but to be sure if he wants a 5 6 combo, the combo i mentioned for a beginner is all that

If you want I'll gladly post pictures of my 7' ul ulgystick gx2 combo

To the op. don't know why the gx2 came up in this post??? The only reason I brought up what I use is the number of guides per foot. What those guides are rated for. The reel spool casting design, bearing in said reel and if the rod is braid line rated.

GX2 came up because someone thought that might be what I was talking about. I was asking about a different Ugly Stik, the Carbon. I think we're all sorted here

try this here 6 foot medium Shakespeare carbon one pc.
under 20 bucks and will i know factually after testing it yesterday 2 hours after i bought it
will in fact get the job done .....little short on the rod butt for me but pretty well balanced .
it is NOT an ugly stik , it is a pretty stik though .....

never say never and for sure chose your advice carefully
some folks dont just go ketch fish for fun once in a while
there are just a few out there that live to ketch fish daily
and in the end it is what it is

I'm another one that likes dedicated rods, for various presentations, like you said, so your not changing out lures.
I'm still doing more bass fishing than crappie fishing (I'm sorry, it's an addiction I just can't seem to break!)
    Drinkin coffee, missin fish.
