must be a popper
In 1926 a man from Wisconsin came out with a very unique lure. It was two and a half inches long and it was a weedless bait. What intrigued me was the hooks were not exposed at all. It had two single hooks, one on the top of the lure body and one on the bottom. when a fish struck the bait the hooks would pop out some slots in the lure body. What was the name of this bait ? I will give some more info around noon today, and will give the answer tonight along with a picture of this lure.

snafu lure
Was thinking something from the Snag Proof line but that may be too recent.

Well, that's an odd little lure. Any idea what they cost (in today's dollars) when they were originally sold? The patent shows it to be pretty complex.
Only a cheese head would come up with something like that.
