    Default Northern vacation recommendations

I'm looking for a good vacation or guys fishing trip up north.(Minnesota/Wisconsin etc...) I'd like a place where we could rent boats, stay in a cabin and catch walleye, Pike, Muskie etc... Basically a Canada type experience, just in the US. Not really interested in Canada due to restrictions etc... Willing to pay for a good lake and accommodations.

Welcome to c.com Durb. You may have better luck with suggestions by posting in one of those state forums.

Why limit yourself to those two states?

Pymatuning Lake, in western Pennsylvania. You can rent cabins for 6 to 8 people. The lake is the largest in the state. It has muskie and walleye, but not sure about pike.. also has crappie, perch, gills, cat fish. You can rent boats, and you could contact Darl Black, who writes articles for North Western Pennsylvania. He also takes people out to catch fish. If you want more info, will help you out.

Welcome from Central Florida. I would look into Minnesota, maybe into the boundary waters. I’ve never spoken to anyone that went there that had anything but good to say. Canada is also worth the trouble but you have to have the info needed before you go to truly enjoy yourself. A man I worked had gone there every year for the past 18 years at the time we worked together. A group of 10 friends and he gathered as best they could, some years as few as 4 up to 11 would make the trip for ten days. Jim made it every year and changed into a small child as he spoke of it. Something to consider.

Or just contact Chaunc as that’s his home lake and a stand up guy of the first order.

I went to the BWCA (near Grand Marais, MN) area two summers ago. We rented a private house and fished a few lakes up the Gun Flint trail. Had success catching smallmouths and walleyes. Even caught a few pretty nice pike. There are also a few inland lakes that have lake trout. Here are two of the lodges up there that offer a Canadian style trip.

The only real problem with Pymatuming lake is within +/- 20 miles of it is Meader creek reservoir, Lake Milton & Mosquito lake. Or 25 miles (1/2 hour) up RT-7 and your on Lake Erie. Any of them will provide quality fishing along with New Lyme being 10 miles away if Pymatuming gets stirred up/cloudy and the bites off.

I would look at the Chippewa Flowage in Wisconsin has everything you are asking for, Class A Muskies Walleye`s,good Panfish and decent Crappies. The only bad thing is getting a place to stay as many Resorts get booked up months if not years in advance.
