My mom is in ICU with stage four lung cancer that has spread all over. She has been in the hospital for almost 4 weeks. The first week or so I stayed with her every night. The hospital decided to close the hospital to all visitors due to the virus after the first week or so. A couple days later the radiation treatments caused her small intestines to burst. It’s been downhill since and she’s been in ICU on ventilator since. Dr said they did another mri and cancer has spread to far and there’s nothing that can be done. She’s alert, her nurse FaceTime me this afternoon and I asked her if she understood what was going on. She nodded her head yes. The nurse then explained the situation and told her about Hospice care in the hospital, she nodded her head yes. So tomorrow at 10 they are going to let my brother and I be there when they take the tube off. We can stay tomorrow but if she last longer it’ll just be FaceTime only due to the virus.
The timing of this virus on all of this is horrible.
March 10th we didn’t know she had cancer. She had fallen and bruised her tailbone and just couldn’t get over it. We had X-ray done, all negative. Took her to get mri and that’s when they found it. Lung cancer had spread to her spine is what was causing the pain. She’s been in a lot of pain so I’m glad her suffering is going to end.
