sometimes anything will work ,have try all colors, plastic maribou, have even caught crappie on a big treble hook with a 1 oz. sinker on top of it trying to retrieve a lost outfit.but if only allowed one lure it would be a white maribou 1/16 oz. jig
Unpainted head with Pourhouse Custom baits are working well for me.

OKAY ... in that case :
Casting : 1/16oz Weedless jighead & Slabanator Mini Rod or Shad (Wildcat or Pokeberry Pie)
Casting : 1/16oz marabou Road Runner (pink) (custom made by Skiptomylou)
Pushing : 1/16oz & 1/8oz Jigheads + Slabanator Hot Rod or Booty Thumper (various color combos)

right now THIS color on whatever head ….hands down and I have about 6 fellas that will tell ya they are worth about 5 bucks each at this very moment in time !
just gave 4 to my bud yesterday as a matter of fact ,custom poured .
Ninja turtle cowabunga is what we call them ….
and KABOOM is the action when a fish sees one
When it comes to lure colors, always white for fur or feather jigs. Soft plastic color preferences depend on lure design.
Clear is cool
or light tints:
Chartreuse curl tails make my day:
...and chartreuse Joker tails get their attention:
This pumpkin body pearl tail worm always catches fish:
Crappie Magnets in any color:
Pearl spike tail grubs make color decision easy:
Color is in the eye of the beholder. What we see above the surface is different than what fish see below it and especially in low light. So when it comes down to preference, lure size and action are what matter most (though I will not use solid grape, black, orange or red lures even if fish might bite them).

Jig head, I will generally use a 1/32 ball head collarless jig, mostly plain, but have painted some with powder. My preference is alewife, but have used others...and have been having extreme luck using pointed tail minnow imitations in the 1 7/8" to 2 1/4" sizes/ Body color again straight chartreuse, or most any color with chartreuse combo. Cloudy sunless days gold bodies and perch powder painted head,( which is a goldish orange), works well also.
