    Default Jig size? First post

I fish in Michigan, crappies aren't as big as the giants I see getting caught down South. I usually fish jigs with a #6 hook, but bought some 1/16oz that came with #2 sickle hooks. Are these too big to build crappie jigs with? Thanks in advance for any help.

pretty small crappie can get pretty big hooks in their mouth , I ketch lots of small fish on larger hooks .
I don't typically like them and most of the crappie world thinks they are a must for reasons unknown to me .
as a kid I always thought how ridiculous is a big gold number 2 or larger hook for a crappie .
my 2 cents and so it begins

Thanks trypman1. Do you think they would be better for plastics or should I tie them up with marabou?

I would say stick with the 6, but try it and see.

Personally I use mostly #6 and #4 size and the #2 are a bit large, but some guys only want that size and larger so it's kind of an personal choice thing. They will work, but if you were from Mississippi that would be normal.

Crappie are all mouth. They can open wide enough to engulf a fish half it's size. The hooks you have will not be a problem at all.
