one gallon of ethanol has 30% less enegery than a gallon of gas right? Now what have hot rodders done for years? turbo and supercharge this adds 25-50% more power thus so you get better millage per gallon than with a non supercharged engine.

Like others have mentioned, not buying gas for one day won't accomplish a thing. Its simple economics, folks, and its supply and demand. If there is a high enough demand, you can pretty much dictate what your pirce will be and people will pay it. If the demand falls off, so will prices. If you want gas prices to go down, you simply have to stop buying it. People are lining up at the pumps right now to buy gas at $2.80/gal. You think the oil companies are simply going to lower prices to make us feel better? Why would they, too many people are willing to pay whatever they charge, regardless if its fair or not. Hit them in the wallet, and the prices will go down. Keep lining up for gas at $3.00/gal, and the prices will never change.

It is sad to say everyman for himself. I don't like the high fuel prices or what the idiots in Washington are spending billions of our dollars monthly on foriegn country's for some kindness trip. I will continue going to church as long as the door is open. I have good friends that attend there. You should think positive not negative like the rich idiots. Grow a garden. Raise a cow. Raise chickens. Raise goats, a booming market for them now. A couple of pigs. Get the drift get off your butt and start to make a positive difference if not for the community at least for your pocket book. Just my personal thoughts.

My 2 cents---There has not been a refinery built in this country in more than 30yrs.That said should end the supply and demand.Build a refinery and supply goes up,price comes down.No one want it in thier backyard. If you keep highway speed below 60mph,you will get an additional 30miles minimum from a tank of gas.How fast are you driving.Dont get so up tight on the church thing, most probably thought it was funny. We are still in better price range than most countries.

I think he was joking Minner. That church needs to preach about having a sense of humor. :D I was gonna say all they need to do is figure out an engine that runs on beer. It would be a better use than drinking that stuff. Would that be DUI? We would have to lock our gas tanks because there would be a national outbreak of fuel siphoning.

I agree with Catch Fillett...The law needs to lower the speed limit to 45 mph. I drive a ways to work every day, and by leaving just 5 minutes early and driving 45-50 mph, I am saving $25-30 or more a week. Didn't they used to do that years ago during a war?

    Angry I'm not convinced!

I'm not convinced that there is a real " Oil Shortage." And did you folks know that most of the oil that we pump out of Alaska goes to Japan? Yep Japan. And we sell it to them cheaper than we buy it from the Middle East. Now that makes good sense! Plus do you folks remember the "Oil Shortage" back in the 70's? That was B.S. I worked on the river back then and still do. We had 8 jumbo (54' x 297' x 12' deep) tanker barges full of crude and no place to pump off. There is no telling how many times we ran from New Orleans to St. Louis and back. We'd go to St. Louis and set. Then we'd go to New Orleans and set. This went on for Months! What I didn't know back then that I know now is that while the oil is in transit it is not considered inventory! I can guarantee you right now there are millions of barrels of crude setting in tankers and barges not being counted.

According to the World Resources Institute, world proven oil reserves were estimated at 1000 billion barrels in 1995. Since proven reserves are usually less than half the ultimately recoverable reserves, we will assume that about 2000 billion barrels of oil will be able to be recovered and used."

If you divide 2000 billion by the consumption rate of 25.3 billion barrels per year, this gives us about 79 more years of oil or until the year 2076 (this was calculated with a starting point of 1997, using statistics from 1995. This number is slightly different now, because the SUV craze was not factored in during those years. No one knew then, that from 2000-present that SUV's would be in such high demand and that there would be so many on the highways. New estimates indicate that if the current trend continues we will use up all existing reserves by the year 2044.

Now new oil can still be found, but by then the cost should reach somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 a barrel and gas will be so high that it wont be worth drilling anymore. That would place gas around $24 a gallon, and quite possibly triple that number because of the nonexistant oil reserves and the demand by the extremely wealthy.
