IMHO ... 0.8mph is Pushing speed, not Spider Rigging speed.

I don't use any weight/speed rule, but I do use a line angle of around 45deg (right triangle calculation) and multiply the length of line out by 0.6 for quick "in my head" depth calculations. I can figure that for every 5ft of line out, my weight will be 3ft deep ... or fine tune the depth by multiplying the length of line by 0.6 ---- so if I want the weight at 9ft I'd let out 15ft of line, or 20ft of line to get to 12ft deep. But say I need the weight/bait running at 17ft deep ... I'd let out ~ 29ft of line (29x0.6=17.4)

I'm running 20lb mono & 30lb braid main lines connected to my weights (1oz) and a 1/16oz jig on a 2-3ft leader line (6# test) and Push at around 1mph. That's when I use the "5' out = 3' down" on a 45deg angle line calculation. Rod tips are generally about 1ft above the surface.
45 degree is very extreme for any application, I don't float along with that theory. Main lines / rigs should be in the 15 to 20 degree category, we ain't pulling them from under the boat. Why I hate power trolling cranks, I despise pulling them fish from under the boat.

Main lines at a 15-20deg slant would be Long Line Trolling. (remember, 90deg slant is straight down)

I will admit that I sometimes doubt my lines are at a 45deg angle, and more likely closer to a 30deg angle. But I still use the 45deg angle calculation that I mentioned, because I'd rather be shallower than I think I am than deeper than I think I am.

When I go over a school of fish that my bow mounted DI unit says are 15ft deep, then my transom mounted 2d unit says they're still 15ft deep, I'm pretty sure the boat did not spook them away. So, if my jigs are 20ft back from the rod tips that are 4-10ft away from the side of the boat ... yeah, they may be +/- "under the boat" & running 10-12ft deep, but I still catch them sometimes. But I'm not Spider Rigging if I'm going 0.8mph-1mph ... I'm Pushing (or Power Trolling as you call it). If I were Spider Rigging my speed would not exceed 0.4mph, and likely be from dead still to 0.2mph ... and my rods would be pointing out the front of the boat & not angled away from the bow ... but, that's just me.

Oh no math, lol. I'm thinking in terms of zero degrees being vertically plumb. In my job we drill holes and use a mounted drill that figures angles for you. 15 degrees being a slight angle with 45 degree being extreme. I attached a photo below on my interpretation of the way I'm determining angles. Just get a livescope OP and you won't ever need to guess again on depth Spider Rigging DepthSpider Rigging DepthName: GR203.GIF.gif

    Oh, OK Snubby .... I see what you're saying/using.

I was using this when referring to line angle :

That's why I said lines at 15-20deg would be Long Lining. And now I can see where you were interpreting 15-20deg as a slight blowback of your lines when Spider Rigging, considering your degree scale. And you can see where I was saying my lines are more likely running at a 30deg angle.
