some spots in Texas have pretty good numbers of them , other spots have nearly zero of them .
not sure why they seem to like certain lakes here better than others though
How common are these? I caught my 3rd one yesterday (all in the same oxbow lake) but never caught one anywhere else. How many have y'all caught in your area?

Depending on location they can be pretty common. I usually catch one every couple of trips. They are some pretty critters

I don’t recollect ever catching one in the two lakes I normally fish.

first time I saw one , it befuddled me totally , we was ketchn bait to use on the big ole log sized striped fish .
we liked bream and as we worked the shoreline a good size one of them hit a pc a worm .
both of us looked at it a good while , trying to figure out what in the world kind of crappie it was .

In many TN lakes they are the dominant crappie. TN has been stocking them for decades. If you fish Center Hill Lake every crappie you catch is likely to be a black nose. While you can’t tell it from the pic all of these were black nose except for I think 2.

Beautiful looking catch there, Randy. Healthy looking fish!

The thing about black nose is they do well in deep, clear reservoirs.....so it stands to reason why Dale Hollow and Center Hill Lakes have huge populations of them. But TN has also been stocking them in many other TN lakes. Last week I fished Percy Priest and only had one black nose. But that has more to do with where I was fishing. I was fishing wood...black nose will relate more to rock than wood.

The ones I have caught have been under docks. The bottom is gravel and broken rock.
