I been crappie fishing every day that I have off and the weather in Pa. has not been great. Hot one day, cold the next. Fishing hasn't been real good so far.
On the lake that I fish there is an area where the beavers made several large "huts". Beaver traffic is heavy around them, and I would have never guessed that the fish would use that brush as cover. Man was I wrong!
Today it was rather chilly and rain fell from early morning until noon. My friend and I went out and got soaked looking for fish. I tried all of the usual hot spots and we caught very few keepers. When I threw my jig into the beaver hut brush, the bobber went straight to the bottom. We caught over 100 crappie out of that beaver hut. we saw many beavers swimming around, but it didn't seem to effect the crappie. I'm surprised by what I learned today. I have yet to see anyone fish that brush...probably because they were thinking like me. It helps to try new things.
Also, today was the first day using my new Wally Marshall 8' Signature Pro rod from BPS. Very nice rod mated up with a Pflueger President 25 series. I'm gonna order another soon.
Lesson learned = Beavers and crappie get along just fine.
