I have to "catch" a limit before I can "keep" a limit ... and that don't happen very often. Most lakes I fish are 1.5hrs to 2hrs drive from home, and only one has a fish cleaning station, so I bring a cooler to ice down my catch (cleaned or not) for the ride home. If I don't catch at least 5 keepers, they're released or given to someone to help make their catch worthy of taking home. And I don't always keep all that are caught/cleaned when a limit or more is caught, as I have 3 fishing partners and a sister that I will share the bounty with.

When I lived in Alabama it was a 30 fish limit 9 inch and longer. I am in Tennessee now it is a 15 fish limit 10 inch or better. Big difference between those limits

Went today and caught a dozen nice crappie. Didn’t keep a one though. If we have some in freezer then I just enjoy fishing and let them go for another day.

I keep a few, mainly to give to older people in my circle.
If we want fish, I go catch dinner.
3 fish 10-12” will feed me and my wife.

Never know but as long as it’s legal I’ll do what I feel at that time.

Here in Maine there is no limit. Crappie are considered invasive and it's encouraged that you do not release any that you catch. That being said I self regulate. We have a good fishery here and I would like to keep seeing it do well. I always release anything under 10 inches, and only keep what is enough to feed my family. Some places the Crappie run smaller so I may keep more. If they are larger fish I only keep 4 to 5. Smaller fish I may keep as many as 10. I fish often enough that keeping more than that isn't necessary.

I work a lot so I try to keep several packages in the freezer so when family comes in I can fry fish. But Most of the time try to keep enough to cook for supper. Mainly just keep fish about 10 to 12 inches because I think they fry up and taste the best. Just feel better letting the slabs go. Don’t know if that’s the best way of doing it but to my way to thinking maybe they will get to be a trophy and they should hatch more babies. Any biologist willing to answer this?

I always keep a limit. Only takes me a few years to catch a limit if you add them up.

Three is my limit for Linda and I. Of course we haven't fished for a year with her broken arm but that's about to change. Going to the therapist first thing tomorrow for her last visit, and the to the Dr. and thinking she will be released to go it on her own. Look out fish.
