Like you said the other day. Having a tournament official in each boat would help. Look at the bass guys, they've been doing it a long time. If someone really wants to do no good they could, no matter what. Integrity!! Anytime the winnings get high in anything, there are those looking for advantages. Eventually it catches up to them.

money ruins everything. the only reason a discussion like this would be censored is conflict od interest. must cut into a wallet somewhere.

and this topic will live on for a long time. weather people like it or not. it should be discussed not hidden so people know what they get at some tourneys. cheaters will always be out there if they think they can get away with it. it will be too bad if he isn't prosecuted!

In all sports there are those that walk the line and sometimes step over it , some step way over it and get caught and some get away with it , its not worth discussing in my opinion for multiple reasons .
One is that fella that got caught is now in a funk beyond your dreams if he had any scruples to begin with .
Not to mention all the things he lost along with his integrity and even possibly his source of income .
And then in the end the part where we all cast stones and I am guilty of it as well makes us better people too ?
I really don't see how dwelling on it will help the tournament venue much and to be sure in the end it saddens me to see people get so competitive they are lost in the endeavor of what the spirit of the outdoors is really all about

I'm becoming sorry for starting the original thread. I thought it would be worthy news regarding our shared love of fishing.
    I apologize to all.

I have taken no offense. It is merely the frailty of man showing itself. An old fellow once told me of his internal fight with good and evil. He discribed it as a fight between two dogs one of which is good the other evil. When asked with dog was winning he replied the one I feed the most. We all make our decisions in accordance with what we can live with

Multiple threads were started on this. It is the talk in crappie world right now. There doesn't seem to be a easy solution to a problem that will probably always be around somewhere. To me this guy lost big time and a lifetime ban seems fair. No reason to completely destroy this man and family with criminal charges. Tournaments will always have the risk of cheating. Lets not dwell on it but move on to better things. Fall bite is on and winter fishing is almost here. Everyone ready for it?

No apology needed. Let’s face reality. The Crappie world never expected this to ever happen and to some it is a shock that it did happen. It’s a worse shock to those that knew the contestant. The real pain was in learning because of his actions, the severity of penalties imposed on him for his actions were and are going to be endured for rest of his life. I honestly think that people will think about what has happened for quite a while and it will take a bit of time to get over it.

Here’s the thing. Something WAS done, the cheater WAS caught, and WAS dealt with. Kudos to Crappie USA! I’ve fished several club tournaments with the East TN Crappie Club. I did so with no thoughts of financial gain. My goal was to learn, and I accomplished that goal. After every tournament, the top teams revealed their approach. Not their GPS coordinates, but their approach to finding fish and how they caught them. These are very good Crappie fishermen and my entry fee was money well spent for the information received. Bad people are out there, but so are good people! I choose to seek out the good people, and that’s why I hang out on this website!
