oh btw did you want to see a picture of her or just the little ones ?…..inquiring minds thing
I want to start out with I don't know . I only go for fun and let fish swim away often . I sometimes ketch some nice fish though and to be sure in the pouring down rain yesterday in a spot that has a low 2 lb. lake record I managed to ketch a crappie that about made my britches wet even in a rain suit
She was 16.5 long and had an 18 inch girth and to be sure didn't act like a crappie when I set the hook . She repeatedly rolled at first and wouldn't budge and I said whoops catfish.
Then she bolted and starting ripping drag , then she turned and did what felt like more rolling and I was like yep catfish.
Then I gained line and she ripped off more and I was like and a pretty good catfish for sure .So we went back and forth a bit and them up to the top she came ! I am sure the look on my face would have been priceless and when our eyes met she turned on her side like sandbass and ran off some line in a quick burst . I was like oh please let her be hooked in the bone , pretty please .She came back up and looked at me again and did a repeat . I was saying prayers faster than I think you can imagine .
So she about lost her mind when she was close to me and I was right with her on that and I got down on my hands and knees in the rain and tried to grab her several times and she was in the I don't think so mode .
Anyway long story short my little 6 foot Tica ultralite and Zebco mono on my Shimano sahara held up and she was deep in the bone hooked with a BnM jighead and I got to hold her for a short time and get some quick measurements with cut fishing line and few time delay photos with my phone and off she went to do what ever she was doing before I messed up her day .
Mind you the police officer that rolled up and looked at me standing there in the rain just shook his head and drove off before the show began ,so the only witness to this event was little ole me .
I only managed 4 crappie in the 30 minutes I was there , 2 were really tiny fish when I first got there and then one about 13 inches and I was all happy . Then number 4 came along and I was like stupid happy dancing in the rain
I was using a bright orange bait and got my hooked straightened out one time before I used the orange with a black and chart that got torn right in half on the hook set .
Never say never and to be sure just because a spot yields mostly small fish most of the time with few ever reaching even 2 lbs. its quite possible a fish in there is a special fish and exceeds the norm by a lot .
Big around as a football she was and looked like she came from Grenada . Right in good ole downtown Ft. Worth Texas go figure ….
KABOOM is the word
