I use the Coast brand headlights both fishing and hunting. Prefer the ones with a red light as well as white option. Red does not effect your night vision as much. I wanted something that uses regular AAA batteries that I can get anywhere. I have retired my Petzel headlights to the vehicle glove boxes for emergency tire change and stuff. My Petzel's are great and have served me well but do not have a red LED when needed.

I just got myself coast headlight too after using those cheap brand for awhile. My requirements is to have red light mode (not flashing). The Coast 400 lumens is bright, super bright compare to those cheap brand and claim 400 lumens. Mine has red light and green light, adjustable white beams with 3 brightness.

Inexpensive and efficient doesn't mean cheap. Mine have lasted 2 years so far and I fish several nights a week. As far as night blindness, if the boat is surrounded by white light then there is no night blindness when you use a white headlamp to get a hook out of a fish's throat, whereas the red is ineffective. Just my 2 cents and experience.

The coast head light I bought not that expensive either at least it work as it claimed. I have cheaper one like bestbuy/amazon that have red light but the brightness not even compare with lowest of coast head light. I also have the one like spot light with separate battery, that one is bright but no red light and pretty awkward to wear and heavy.
I use light mostly bank fish but sometime on kayak or boat, I can’t use white light because all the bugs would fly into my mouth, eyes right away. The red light is pretty sufficient to unhook single hook lure for me. The best part is the one I got have two switches one for white light and one for red/green very convenient instead of circle thru all the light setup before red light.

Good amount of light. Nice mess of fish. Which light did you end up going with?
