I love marabou jigs! I use them along with plastics while side pulling long lines. Here's a shot of a group I just received from "skiptomylu", a crappie.com member:

You can make the hand ties any way you want them. You are only limited by the materials you can come up with. Gives the hand ties a big advantage in my book

Mike, you asked about what works better. Every material has its attributes that will work best on a given day. While hackle holds it shape, maribou moves like no other. I have tied jigs that had a hackle feather first and then shorter maribou that wraps the hook shank. My thought with this was that it will maintain a bulky shape and have the action that we all know catches fish. Kiptail will maintain its shape but not move much, and bucktail even less. But when the shad bite is on a kiptail dart is the ticket. And we all know that what works today might not get a look tomorrow.
