I have seen an old one bent before and I do NOT keep them bent.
I am a believer in storing fishing poles with no pressure on the tip to cause a bend. I store them straight. My kids are tired of hearing about it from me when I scold them for it. I have seen it cause a permanent bend in the top 6-10" of the tip. What say you?

Years ago this was a problem...and may still be a problem with cheaper rods today. The rod can get what is known as a "set" in it from storing at an angle and the tip gets bent over....and doing so in the heat can hasten this. But I am pretty sure with the new resins this problem went away a long time back. I break all my rods down after each trip and put them in the storage pouch laid flat on my bench or on the top of my rod locker in my boat. I also have a rod rack that I can store in vertically should I so choose to....but that is rare.

Alphahawk is correct .... fiberglass rods are prone to "setting in" if left bent, especially in high heat.
I had that very thing happen to a Bass rod that got left in a bend, in my car during the Summer .... ruined. I have a fiberglass rod, right now, that the tip end is bent (slightly twisted) from having been left stacked in a corner (hand me down rod from my Mom/Stepfather).
Ruining that Bass rod, back 35-40yrs ago, was all it took for me to stay away from situations that would ruin any more rods, and I've kept them stored "in the house/apt" in storage racks & with no line tension on the tip. My boat is stored outside, covered, and I don't leave rods in the rod box (or in the truck).
I keep mine straight and vertical in PVC holders in my living room. If I was a fishing rod I wouldn't want to be bent over by a piece of string for days or weeks!

Most of my rods are 2 piece rods and I break them down and I have both pieces wrapped together with a hair band with no pressure on the tips. I have a few one piece rods, mostly ultralight, with no pressure on the tips. They are laying on a table in the basement. My ice fishing rods are stored away in a gear bag with no line through the eyes of the rods. I make sure the tips are straight as they are all one piece rods. They are stored on a shelf near my other rods.

The only time I want a bend in my rod is when a fish is on the line!
Can't vote. Not enough options. I keep my rods rigged "taught", but not bent per say.
