Had an Etrex for years and really liked it. Used it for marking waypoints and monitoring my speed while trolling. Well someone decided that they needed it more than me. Need to get a new one before fall so I can mark my spots before ice season.
It was pretty good for marking spots but not extremely accurate. Usually 15 feet or so was the closest I could get to a spot on a spot. When your ice fishing 15-20 feet off your target makes for a lot of hole drilling. It was ok in the boat you could throw a marker than circle until you found the target. When I had a Magellan I could punch in the co-ordinates numbers and be spot on. The Etrex was simplier to use.
Ok so the question is which one do you prefer?
I agree with Huntin.
I use mine for Geocaching.

I have been using the Garmin eTrex Legend HCx model for many years now - close to a dozen years. No problems, no worries. I've probably got 30 prime way points set on the thing and it gets me pretty close each time. Not sure of the actual accuracy though. Never gave it much thought. A good, reliable unit in any case. As far as accuracy goes on GPS's there are a lot of factors that come into play. A GPS will be much more accurate on clear days, as clouds obstruct reception of some of the satellites on which they rely. One thing I like about my Garmin, that my Humminbird does not have, is the screen that shows what satellites it is receiving. The more you are receiving, the more accurate the GPS will be on that day.

I have to plead dumb on this too. My last handheld was a Garmin 72, and it did a good job for me. I bought the cig lighter plug power supply as the ram mount for it and it never left the boat. No bells or whistles but I would buy an updated Garmin today if the need arose. Good product.
