You can get all the help you need on here with techniques. Great site for that. But spots are going a little far unless you know somebody good. We all have buddies we share spots with but some people act like you should clean them for them after you told them where to catch them.

My only trip to KY lake M R Dux told me where he caught some fish and I appreciated it. Most crappie fisherman will help you at different times just don't gig every frog in the pond.

I always give vague answers to 'what are they biting?' I answer - spinners and leave it at that. (Haven't used a spinner in 30 years.) For some reason they know not to ask for the location fish where fish were caught. Bet your experience was the exception.

On the subject of giving up a 'spot'. My friend and I went to Weiss late March one year(several years ago). 3 day trip, we were still working. We get down there late at night. We were 'wired' so we decided to fish at a landing that had a security light about 200 feet out in the water from the ramp (about 10ft deep water) at 1am in the morning. Weather was terrible, 30 degrees, but, we caught our limit, 10" (30 each) by 5 am in the morning. Fish came in on 'waves' during the time. Fish for 20 minutes, nothing, then all heck broke loose, fish on every pole. We went in and put our catch on Ice and slept to about 2 pm in the afternoon. We then went to the fish cleaning station at the landing and cleaned our 60 crappie, drawing a crowd. Nobody was doing good due to the unexpected cold weather and 25mph winds during the day(it was calm at night). Several people wanted to know where and how we caught these fish. My partner told them we caught them early in the morning about 4 miles from where we caught them with gigs near the bank. I asked him why did he tell them that, he said, If I tell them we caught al of these under the security light 200 feet from where we were cleaning the fish at 1am- 5am in the night, there would be 10 boats out there. So, I understood. We continued to do this, for the next two days and had the same results each night.

Intidement is the way of the world now days. I don't blame you on bit and like others have said I see it all the time. We all have a lot of time and money invested in fishing spots and it's up to you if you are willing to share information and no one should judge you either way

I'm going to go out on a limb and say maybe they didn't know any better...

For time to time when someone left me shaking my head I'd tell my mom and she'd usually say" Honey when you know better, you do better"... To some casual fisherman asking a guy specifically where he got on fish is like asking where's the coldest beer in town.

I give way more information out than I should. I am a sucker for a boat load of kids. In the winter hear on Lake O' the Pines the crappie stack up tight on brush right in the creek channel.
You can be 10' off them and not catch a fish while a guy that is on them catches a limit in an hour. I have lost count of how many times I have been catching one after the other while someone a few yards away was setting watching me. I almost always wave them over and help them get in the right spot then move on to find me another place. I have lots of places marked and the tools to find plenty more.
At the end of the day we are all just a bunch of kids playing in the water, I like to help folks have fun when ever I can.

Some folks think its all abt them. Not the same but still a funny story; We were fishing abt a month ago same time as a local bass tournament. Drifted by a guy in the tournament fishing around docks. We exchanged greetings and then we caught a really nice crappie while our boats were still close enough to talk. The bass fisherman commented on the crappie and how a few more would make a nice mess to eat. I replied that we could catch alot more crappie if we could keep the bass off our lines and told him we had already caught 9-10 bass. Just a little white fisherman’s fib but couldnt resist for some reason. The look on his face was priceless.

On the flip side, more than once, when I've seen someone struggling to catch fish and I'm catching plenty, I've offered advise, given out the "magic color" plastics and given bottles of slab sauce. But, helping someone that's having a hard time catching fish and being interrogated before you're on the water are totally different things
