I have never thought twice about giving any advice I had. Albeit I’m far good enough to being a guide. I figure that I have been helped all my life so why not try to help someone else.

I have always found if I hire a guide & I am happy & satisfied. I will hire him again. My goal is to have fun & learn. I find he is happy to share techniques & different spots to find fish. But I would never go up to one & ask where he was fishing. Pretty rude in my book. Why didnt he just ask for your waypoints.

I understand! I’m an Investment Advisor. Guess what I get asked all the time, and it’s usually not asking for a meeting.,

When we were down on KY lake the last week of March and my Dad and I show up in my little 16 foot 1973 Mon Ark and we talked to a guide that was waiting for his clients at the ramp. I think we only saw one other boat all 3 days that wasn't some fancy bass boat. He probably thought we didn't know what we were doing. At the end of the day we saw him back at the ramp and he told my Dad to go look in his cooler thinking we would be impressed. He had a good amount but we actually had more. We ended up sharing with each other what worked. Both of us were long lining but using different weights.

Q; Where'd you catch those fish?
Me; Corner of the mouth, mostly.

Since I fish from a kayak these days I'm not going to get away or outrun anyone, but I also get overlooked pretty often. When I'm taking a nice bag of fish out at the ramp is when people start asking questions or paying attention.

Had a few guys recognize me and start following the exact path I was pulling cranks, just to see if they could figure out what I was doing.

In todays modern world, everybody thinks that, because information is shared (overly) on the internet, that most people (in their mind "Everyone) should/will/would be willing to share any and all information they have!

People feel compelled to take photos of what they eat and post it online, they feel the need to follow the wake and wim of every celebrity that tells them what they are doing in 140 characters or less, they think that everyone is interested in what they think, feel, or say and, everyone else is just like them.

Unfortunately, I have noticed that a majority of our society as a whole is going this way. I used to think it was the younger generation but, as more and more people continue to see this, more and more people continue to act like everyone else. Almost as if: "if you can't beat em, join em" mentality. The surprising thing to me (probably the same for Doug) wasn't that they asked, but rather their reaction when you didn't feel compelled to tell them. As if they were "entitled" to know.

I could go on and on with my frustration of our society as a whole but, for now I'll just stick with my observations listed above. I have absolutely ZERO issues helping someone out BUT, don't assume that I am required to do so!

MR, you did good. Story about helping SOME people to catch fish. I fish some of the small lakes around here and fish off the Public use docks. Last experience was at a small lake that had some decent crappie. I'd brought some minnows to fish off the dock. There were 2 twin girls around 12 years old fishing on the dock with their grandpaw when I got there. I put on a minnow and immediately caught a 10" crappie. The girls had been there about an hour and had not caught a thing, but they were trying. I asked Grandpaw if could rig their poles with slip corks for crappie fishing. He said yes. I set both these girls up with a slip cork rig for crappie, put on the minnows, I quit fishing and watched , helped them catch a nice mess of around 20 crappie. My day was made based on the faces of the young ladies after they caught these fish. I went home with no fish, but have the memory of the look of these girls catching fish.
