My 3 yr old German Shorthair goes with me and loves every minute of it. Flying down the lake at 50 he likes to stand on the bow with his nose in the wind.

I take my lab when I am only going after work, or for just a few hours. I don't take him on the all day trips. His name is Buck too.

I have a rot/pit mix that goes fishin' all the time. I could sit and watch that idiot all day long. I have to keep everything away from him or he'll eat it. I was catfishin' with an egg weight 2 feet below the hook pulled it up and set it on the bank too close and turned around to him swallowing egg weight and a foot and a half of line I know that thing was in his stomach before I pulled it out. The day before he ate every bit of 3 day sun soaked cut shad.

I use his middle name when he's in trouble.

My Australian Shepherd goes fishing with me. Only problem is that he likes to drink my beer.

a little off topic, but still involving pets...

When I was in high school, I had a yellow lab named Ziggy. Not only did Ziggy go out in the boat fishing with me, he liked to do his own fishing. At my grandparent's place on Keuka Lake, we have real shallow water at the Branchport end of the lake (waist high at the end of a three section steel dock).

Ziggy loved to swim, so if he was bored, he'd just go swimming - didn't need to fetch or retrieve anything. When he was 3 or 4 years old, he showed us a new trick... we'd watch him swim back in forth in front of the cottage, parallel to the beach, just past the end of the dock. Suddenly, he'd go underwater and come up with a bluegill or sunfish in his mouth!!!!

We always got a laugh when someone called in to the house: "Ziggy's trolling again!!"

    I miss that dog

I take my black Lab K.C. with me just to keep his "boat" manners in check. I started him at about 3 months but when he was 6 mo. he developed a habit I had to watch. I was fishing a top that was producing well so i grabbed a bucket for the fish so I didn't have to go to the live well. He would stick his head in the bucket and catch one and run to the back of the boat. no big deal until I got into the bigger fish and he decided to play catch and release. Grab out of the bucket and drop in the lake!!
