    Another thing that helps for an easier hook set is to take your pliers and flatten the barbs on your hooks.

    Mo'nback is right. Cross his eyes and get out the pliers, cause you gonna need'em to get the hook out. I had a problem last week with setting the hook. Found out they weren't crappie. They were large gar. They bump a jig just like crappie, but are harder to hang with the barb. Harder to hang onto, also.

    I do the wrist flick and then keep the line tight. Any slack and he's gone. I do like to put a good bow in the rod using long rods when hook setting. If the rod tip or line does anything that you didn't make it do, set the hook. CF

    And if you try all these tips and find that you're still missing fish, all logic says they're nipping your jig tail. Simply trim off some tail/skirt/feather and make them take the hook!

    Also, add some scent if you don't already so they'll keep it that extra split second you need to set the hook.
