Mike, I started with the kit you have listed from Bass Pro. Not as many bells and tools, but everything you need to tie some jigs. Heads, thread, chenille, feathers, and hair. Plus basic tools, vice, bobbin, etc. and a so so video that will get you to tying quickly. You will get a good taste of it, and then decide what else you want to buy if you want to have a go at it. I reccommend it for a starter kit.

Well I am sure no one wants to hear what I would suggest since it's not near as low cost as this stuff you guys are talking about. First I like a true rotary vise and wouldn't be without it, but the cheapest out there is about $80.

I'll stop there unless someone wants to PM me for other info.

Oh and just so you know I am not kidding my vise was about $200 and is my 3rd. The first was one of them under $20 specials and my second was a $80 Danvise and was good for me, but I finally broke down and got a very good one.

It's just like what my buddy who bowls, used to say. Most people can't tell the difference between a 40 dollar and a 400 dollar bowling ball. he can and has the trophies to prove it. I bought one of those kits and still have no clue what most of it is for. I bought a jig tying video from one of the guys here, 'jig tying 101' and learned enough tricks to make some jigs that are good enough to use and have already caught enough fish to know I am on to something that the fish have not seen. they are trying to swallow them! It's just like anything else, the first 100 are hard, after that, it gets easier.

If you're planning on tying jigs, I would take back the kit you bought. If you plan on tying a few flies as well, keep it.

Sandwich Maker is right. The BPS kit has everything you need. It is the simplest/fastest way to get started. But I would still buy the fingernail polish instead of using the head cement that comes in the kit.

To be honest, the $29 Deluxe tool kit from Cabelas is better than the tools I tie with now. If you buy it, I do not think you will be disappointed. If you buy either of the tool kits from Cabelas, here is a list of other materials you will need:
THREAD - you can get away with one spool of black and one of white to start. Get them from a specialty store (Cabelas, BPS, Backwoods, etc.), not Wal-Mart. $4
MARABOU - These are the feathers. Colors I would start with: chartreuse, white, pink, black, and orange. $15
CHENILLE - This is what the body is made of. It looks like really flexible pipe cleaner. They have different sizes, I would use medium. Colors: black and white (for now). $5
GLUE/CEMENT - As mentioned, I would use Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails." $2

Total cost: $55 (not including jigheads)
If you want to save a little money, you can get the Standard tool set for $16. It looks like it's about the same quality as the tools that come in the BPS jig tying kit. Let me know what you're thinking.

And I didn't include a video on that list 'cause you can watch plenty of good jig tiers on youtube.com for FREE. Just type in "jig tying".

You'll be happy with the BPS kit. It has everything you need to get started.

But just so our home viewers know, I'd go 6/0 or heavier on the thread (120-210 denier), and medium on the chenille. Any lighter thread and I break it. Like I said, I don't have the finesse for fly tying! But I love jigs.

    Default It's done

    BPS Kit has been ordered.
I guess now the fun starts.

I was really surprised I couldn't find a kit on the Internet other then 'FLY' tying kits. I figured maybe someone on here would be able to point some out.

When I start to need products I'll get them where you people buy from. I don't recon that will be for a while though.
I will need some jigs but I recently saw someone posted where they got there's. I'll look it up.

    Thanks for the hep all.

I don't know if you're an ebayer, but I buy mine there. You can get 50-100 (depending on what size/type of hook) unpainted for about $10. There are tons of other places to get them though. I hear Cabelas is the cheapest place for painted jig heads, but I've not ordered them personally.
