I double jigged for the first time this past weekend. I was jigging along some docks and it was amazing, I twice pulled out doubles something I've never done before. I also was able to find out what color and type of jig was getting the most attention. It may not end up be my prefered method, but I can see where there will be times that it's beneficial.

In my experience when longlining (can't speak for other methods), double jigs will outfish singles 99% of the time.

Single jig here. Tried doubles, fun when you get 2 on. As mentioned earlier I usually only catch on the bottom. Reason for only single now? When only one fish on the bottom- the top hook always gets tangled in my net.

I never use double jigs due to the cover I fish.
If I were to use two I couldn’t unhook the bottom jig when I get hung up

If brush and/or shallow water (less than 10 ft) I only use one . Fishing standing timber in deep water with little to no brush I will use two . Trolling which I only do in deep water I always use two .

I like to double jig night fishing with lights under bridges around pilings. I have doubled up several times using doubles jigs. Both minnows, jigs tipped with a minnow, and a large minnow on top with a jig on bottom. I like mixing it up to see what is most productive.

If you don’t fish a double rig . You never catch a fish on the top hook!
