Leonard do you think they will come out with a improved Ls this year or early next year?
Hi Rickie. Thanks for the plug. The problem with all this new technology for me is that it is cumulative. Adding something has not let me give up any. I still have and use 2d, side imaging, down imaging and now Panoptix and LiveScope. I've never had or used 360, but too many people are using it and happy doing it to kick it.
The technology is absolutely for real. For me, what makes it such a home run is its effectiveness and simplicity. Set the gain to auto medium and range to 70 starting out and fish. The returns are eye catching, no brain work or calculating to do. In an instant know how far away the fish are and how deep. From my testing the PS22 will show individual fish out to 160 ft and to a depth of more than 100 ft. The LiveScope with gain on Auto Medium will show them out to about 90 ft and about that deep. You can get greater distances by adding more Gain but the screen starts getting messy. The LIveScope is much more detailed than the PS22. I have trouble separating schools of bait from schools of fish that school closely, like crappie using the PS22. Using LIveScope I can tell the difference. The biggest thing is that it is just plain fun. I don't tournament fish. I just fish for pleasure. Never had so much fun fishing.

Seeing everything in real time and the whole video game aspect of it is one reason I may drop the hammer on it. I have young kids that go fishing and we all know if they aren't catching, they get bored, etc etc
Being able to see the fish, how they react I think will peak their interest even more, the "knowing" factor , you can see the fish is there. that brings in teachable moments.. change color, change presentation, change size.. I think it will give them more confidence, myself too.. They love looking at the bird screen now, figuring out if it's fish, bait, etc
I'd love to upgrade the bird unit too as it's 3-4 years old... outdated technology now... I'm a humminbird guy, but they don't have anything to compete with Livescope currently and won't this year at a minimum so LS gets my vote.
I just wonder if it's good enough to show me shrimp on the bottom, that would be a game changer for summer shrimping here
Is it weird that I would feel like I am almost cheating using this technology??
I don't. I think the improvements over the next year will be software related. Cleaning up noise at higher gain settings and cleaning stray peculiar returns that look like a hockey stick in real rocky terrain, etc..
Probably not, unless they move around. If they are moving, maybe. I can't say. We don''t have shrimp.I just wonder if it's good enough to show me shrimp on the bottom
