Thanks NJ! I knew someone would know what was going on. Can I still hold the jig by the eye with my pliars, or do I need to grab it by the hook end like most pics I see?

You can still hold it by the eye. The problem sounds like, just like NJ said, you are leaving too much paint on the head. Tap them real good (I do it back on the side fo the jar) by tapping my foreceps on the side of the paint jar and that should knock off the excess paint.

It's a process with a little technique. Once you get it down, you'll have it down forever.

And do remember to fluff your paint if you're not using a fluid bed. By tapping the exess on the side of the paint jar, you are packing the powder paint back down. Fluff and fluff often. :D

Is there a chance I'm heating the jig up too hot before I dip? I don't know, I was just thinking maybe the hotter it is the more paint is drawn to it. I've been using a lighter for 4-6 seconds, but I could cut it down to 2-3 seconds if that would help.

I had some jigs that came with a crappie kit that I decided to try this on after reading your post. I only had black, blue and green Sharpies, so those are the colors I used. Bought some cheap clear nail polish from WalGreens.

    Original color is top left.

I am going to have to try the powder paint, as I have a ton of lead heads I am not using. Where is the best place to pick the paint up, or is this an item that I need to order?
