How in the world do you fish in that thick stuff and not stay hung up. I want to get into some stuff but figure I’ll just stay hung up.

    Thanks.

If you don't fish that stick stuff you don't get bit. The key is to have a stiff rod and lift the fish straight up and swing him to you when you get a bite. Your fishing in less than 4ft of water so the key is turn his head quick and lift up on your rod.

I have a 10' and a 12' and sling larger crappie over the side of the boat with no issues. I just started using them wade fishing and have good luck.

Getting hung up is part of it.
If you don’t “ take it to them”
You won’t catch many some days.
Jigs tight line only is the way to go.
When you hang up you run the rod tip down to the jig and unhook it. ( pull your line slack)
It works about 99% of the time

I was always told if you aren't getting hung up you are fishing in the wrong places.

Dayton ... IF I was to have to fish in that type of brush, nowadays .... I'd use a weedless jig head tipped with a minner, instead of a #1 or #2 lite wire hook. Didn't have any such thing in my tackle back then, but most of my "hangups" came from wet braid clinging to the branches & not my hook sticking into them.

Didn't have a choice back then (1970's) ... but, to your point : if the minner is wrapping you up, clip his tail fin off ... then all he can do is "wiggle".
