    In my very limited experience...

Long lining is a great way to have a relaxing day, covering a lot of water and catching a lot of fish, while having a relaxing day on the water. The fish hook themselves.

Spider rigging is a great way to catch some really quality fish and is much more attention sensitive and intense than long lining. You gotta pay real close attention and be sitting fully cocked, locked and loaded to set the hook.

Single pole fishing is fun as long as you can find fish. I have trouble finding grouped up crappie to catch with a single pole.

At the end of the day, do what you love and have fun doing it. I like all 3 types of fishing just about as good as the other.

ET, my Lund is rigged for trolling, but I enjoy using jigs and floats over brush piles, one rod casting jigs, and vertical tight lining. One thing about trolling that I have noticed is that I learn more about a lake looking at the graph and then the rod holders. Go over a school of bait fish and tell your wife to get ready.......crappie often are right there. Then there are brush piles you never knew were there. You'll find yourself going back to those and fishing your favorite way. I have a good friend who is perhaps the best crappie fisherman on Tellico. I delighted in telling him about a seventy foot long tree sunk completely in 20' of water and about a 100yds from one of his brush piles. Tomorrow he and I are going walleye fishing.....and he caught 13 crappie on Tellico today. Versatility is a good thing. Rig up your trolling rods and go to the upper end of Chilhowee, troll Rapalas, and then tell me that those lake trout caught trolling are not fun. But so are the crappie on your home lake. Your next thread will probably be about umbrellas!!! ;-)

I enjoy spider rigging and longlining but haven’t single pole fished much. You could try shooting docks too.

I never got into spider rigging. There is to much brush where I fish so I don't think it would very effectlve unless I did along rip rap banks. I'm a single pole jigger because it is the method I enjoy the best. My favorite is moving from bridge piling to bridge piling jigging up those slabs. My second favorite is picking apart the buck brush during the spawn. I'm sure others feel differently but I seldom fish for a limit. I just enjoy the thump.

Spider rigging does take specialized equipment that takes a while to learn to use but after taking the plunge, I LOVE it!
It is so exciting to find the fish and have them hitting multiple poles at the same time......the last time my wife went with me she said "you looked like an orchestra conductor up there"
I can also tell you that for me personally, it is much more productive in the waters that I fish.
As mentioned earlier there is no "thump" but watching them poles dance is awesome!

I have loved the thump since the 60s and still prefer it but, I have never caught 100 fish single poling and that is fun what ever method you use. I also learned to fish and enjoy other ways as well. I spider rig in the spring. I got into cranks thanks to Rees for helping me with equipment as well as advise. I just learned to longline, again thanks to Rees. Just fish the way you enjoy it or you won't go as often.

I just cast jigs with one rod and reel. It’s all I’ve ever done. When it stops working, I’ll try something else.

I’m a cast a retrieve guy. As Disco said....when it quits working I’ll do something else. ET......sooner or later they will cut the sluice off in “The Pond”. You will know because I will be in there catching those big black nose.....so when they drop the water at Center Hill another 20 feet we can get in there.....LOL. So be ready to come on down......and get you a limit of trout with your limit of crappie. Just wonder how long that’s gonna take.

    Regards
