Very informative. When I get my new garage finished I'll be making one of these line spoolers. That way I can move my operation outside rather than using my vastly more primitive line spooler and dealing with 2 cats that think playing with a 3700 yard spool of Trilene Big Game is a wonderful thing and a wife who refuses to find any humor in the whole deal.

BTW, both Slim Jim's and helpers like yours give me heartburn.

It was funny how I seemed to have friends right up until I had to spool 20 reels with 1000 plus feet of line each!

As a young boy, I grew up steelhead fishing in the winter. We used 6lb test line on those very line weary clear water stealhead. Back then, the line just wasn't as good as it is today. When you fish for 6 hours hoping for 1 bite, you want to ensure everything is spot on. We would check our line every week or so and if there were nicks or freys, we would strip it off and start fresh. I've burned my fingers many times while holding a screwdriver or pencil in the hole of a spool and applying tension while my dad reeled in line.

When running Salmon boats, we had 40 some odd different rod setups. In early spring and summer, we ran 20lb test on the majority of our rigs. When late summer came and the big fish showed up, we switched to 30lb. I quickly realized that my time was better spent doing something else as opposed to spooling all those reels!

So far, everyone that has built one really likes it. As I said in the video, I leave my spools on all the time. On the right side, I have a big 3000yard spool, on the left (shorter side) I have on a smaller 1200 or even smaller spool for other reels (like spinning reels). It is in the corner of my barn and out of the elements. I have it available when needed at all times. I turn on the music and start spooling.

i will add the spring for drag to my rig. MY rig is made from a anchor bolt that i place in my bench vice when needed. My clutch was a cork washer ans a wafer washer combo. Aggravating to get the drag just right.
