I use Daiwa ADP17LC Accu-Depth Reels No problems with them so far (3 years). I paid around $65 each for them.
I use UglyStik Lite Pro Medium Action rods because they're cheap, tough, and readily available at WaMa. I originally bought 2 that were 6'6", then couldn't find any more, so I bought a 7' medium action and cut the handle down to match the others. The shorter rod handles make it easier to remove from the rod holders on my kayak. I don't know what to tell you about different rod lengths, as I've only seen 6'6" and 7'.
I bought SpiderWire the same place the rods came from because they had the size I was looking for.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I concur on the short rods but I still like the 8'+ whimsy rods in the yack for fly fishing techniques and or trolling way out to the side as I pedal. But they are a PITA with butts around the pedals but the fisherman will survive the hassle. CUONO
