I go to longlining as the water temps get into the mid 50s and the trash from flooding or spring rains has calmed down. Longline trolling is extremely frustrating when there is trash like leaves, pine, needles, grass, etc is swirling around in the water column. Power trolling is running a bit faster normally and with the heavy weight in front of the jig/crank is easier to deal with trash in the water.

We fished Clarke hill last Saturday and I am trying to get into power trolling. I pushed out the front of the boat and my partner pulled out the back of the boat. He caught twice as many as I did and I told him he would before we left the ramp. You will most likely catch more fish pulling but pushing has it's advantages to. I changed to 1 1/2 oz weights for my next trip. If you are looking for numbers and bye yourself then I would long line. Just my

I am working on power pulling (pulling with inline weights) charts. I have completed some stuff. It takes 2 people to gather the depth info. I can't do it by myself and I ain't paying nobody to go fishing with me, especially since I will be giving the info gathered to everyone at no cost. Takes time and dedication. Ask blueball. He has helped me.

    I'd love to help!
I'm retired, available most days, willing to drive from Benton.
Let me know if/when I could help!

Great! Will wait till it warms and the feeding frenzy season is over. Have to have no wind or minimum wind conditions. Here is a pic of blueball steering the depth finder tow sled. Tow sled has a 2d transducer that we spot the depth of the lure. Not really hard work. Time consuming though.

The results will give accurate depths of lures for push or pull crankbaits or whatever we wanna look at.

!.2 mph is my nominal boat speed at idle. Seemed like a good starting point to me. I use the troll motor to steer the boat and let the big motor push the boat. If I need to go slower, I reverse the trolling motor. I can still steer the boat this way too.
