Bobby Garland Baby Shad, Charlie Brewer Sliders , Midsouth Tackle Super Tubes these three baits have been the best baits for me for a long time. I have been experimenting with the Trout Magnets lately.

Southern pro 2”” inch stinger shad. Discovered them a couple of years ago and have caught a ton of fish on them.
Close second would be iPilot, I’ve gotten absolutely spoiled with that thing. Only reason it’s not first is because I would probably still go fishing if I didn’t have it, but man I’d feel lost.

welcome to the forum , that's a tricky question , there are lots of variables , I would start with a rod that's a bit stiff and lightweight in a medium length of say around 7 foot , an ok reel that will cast and some light line on it around 6 lb test .
a pocket full of assorted small light jigs in various proven colors and some kind of scent to put on them .
a handful of quill type floats and ask all the locals about where a good spot is to ketch crappie and from there .....learn to set the hook on any little tiny thing that might look or feel like a bite , they can be tricky devils sometimes for sure
best of luck to you
