No haven't tried it,have moved trolling batteries up front though.Believe new poles will do the trick from what I've compared so far.I may just buy 4 poles at the grizzly show to get me by for now, usually only spiderrig 4 anyway.Later in the year try to fish with someone with different brand poles and carry mine along and cmpare,if I find something better buy a full set later in the year.

Can you describe how the Denali is "reacting" differently than other rods in the wind ...??

I was perfectly happy with my southern's until I made the mistake of going fishing with Ree's. He just had to have me fish with them white poles. Now I'm a owner. Won't give up my southern's but sure ain't getting rid of the Denalli's either. If you want to your more than welcome to take my set and fish them for a while if you want. I could meet you somewhere up the rd. In fact I just remembered I have a couple of spares you could take and use for your comparison long as you wanted.

Rickie, my experience with the southern's ( which I love ) is the tips have a tendency in high wind to whip around quite a bit compared to the Denalli. My 16's were so bad I got rid of them. They would actually form a S bend from tip back into second rod section. 14 not quite as bad but still move side to side quite a bit. I am just supposing it has something to do with material they are made of and how they are wound to make them so tuff. Now it has to be pretty breeze for this to happen but it can be agrivating at times. Don't find it at all with the Denalli.

None of them say they are good up to 3lbs but we all swing the fish in all the time. Also you can try tying a 5 gallon bucket to each side of the front of your boat and drag them in the water it helps with the up and down without adding lots of weight.

Does this mean the Denali is simply "stiffer" at the tip ...??
