Dang that tough. And tough laws in your area too. 50 minners, really! Dang Gewberment.
Yesterday, while checking out my favorite crappie lake, our one and only bait shop has closed down. This particular shop was the only one for many miles that sells live minnows of variety,I'm not happy about it,so it looks like I will be using more artificial, and trapping what I can.
Our state law only permits a possession limit of 50 minnows unless it's a state approved business,or minnows are purchased from a state lisenced business with a sales receipt .

Unfortunately this is happening more and more. We are starting to see gas stations selling bait because stand alone bait shops simply cannot survive. Sad state for sure. Amazon can't ship me a couple dozen minnows (that I know of).
I have OCD "Obsessive Crappie Disorder"
That's awful. We are so lucky. We still have bait shops open on both ends of the lake. If I am gonna fish the whole weekend I usually just get a pound of them and turn the leftovers loose in my pond to feed the bass. We even have one bait shop that we can get minnows on the honor system. I bet most guys that know about it leave more $$ like I do for the convenience.

Happened to me too. Now closest minnows are 35 miles one way. Luckily my town has 2 stores with lots of plastics.

Late winter early spring trapping is out of the question, minners just don't seem to be out and about much.Ive considered pet store fish, but dang, them little buggers aren't overly cheap.Im also considering a throw net when the temps warm up enough to bring them out,I would carry it while fishing, just in case I have one of those run outta minner days.
We have the same thing going on here,I end up driving 35 miles to a bait wholesaler to buy Fatheads by the lb. or half lb.We only have 1 small mom and pop baitshop left around us and starting last year would only sell 5 dozen max to us at a time, plus he stops getting minnows at the start of summer when the seasonal stocked trout fishing is slowing down.
