Have anyone ever caught a white crappie with the Mohawk stripe?
We catch a few of those a year here on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes ...
We call them black nose crappie also ...
CrappiePappy (and others) will be along soon to explain the details for the black stripe ...

Many times...
Back in Texas.
So are y'all saying the Mohawks you have caught or seen were white crappie or were they black crappie?
I've caught several black crappie that were Mohawks but have never seen a white crappie with that trait.

I've never caught a White Crappie with the black stripe. But, that being said ... we did have this posted back a few years ago : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...crappie-2.html ... so it does occur.
And if you look at this thread, you can see that even the naturally occurring hybrid cross Crappie can end up with a black stripe : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...crappie-2.html ... so it's not so unlikely that a hybrid cross Crappie could end up with the black stripe AND White Crappie markings.
The black stripe is just the results of a marker gene that occurs naturally in the wild in several different states. It IS, normally, associated with the Black Crappie ... but, because it's a gene caused mark, it can be transmitted via crossbreeding.
WOW. .. great info & here it is I was thinking I was special since I never saw one....LOL
Thanks for the links... ...
buddy just caught one 2 weeks ago here in ne indiana.
Didn't say it wasn't "special" ... and it probably is a rarity.
That would make two "Crappie" that I've never seen in person, or caught ... a White Crappie Blacknose & a "Gold" Crappie. And yes, Gold Crappie also exist. They range from some having a gold cast to their fins and light gold coloration over their body, all the way to being solid gold colored with little to no other markings.
Here's another link showing one : http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...crappie-3.html
I've caught plenty of "regular" Blacknose down in Tenn, at Watts Bar Lake, but have only caught one here in KY ... at a small lake (784acres) filled in 2003 & stocked with Black Crappie that were taken from several other lakes in the state. Blacknose Black Crappie have been stocked in many of the major lakes in the state.
