I'll just speak of trolling Crankbaits. A few years back while i lived in TN, I decided to take some of the Bandits everyone spoke of and give it a shot. Over time I tried different colors and brands and depths, then started painting my own. My last years there I was so enamored with it, I just kept trying it as the water warmed in the spring and was surprised at what happened. When the water began to get the fish moving in the spring, before the fish went to the beds, they were staging off of the drop offs and just hanging around. I trolled around til I found the right area to work and trolled cranks in that, and different areas not far away, all the way into the fall when the water temps changed their overall pattern. All totaled I trolled for about 7 months straight with good catches all along the way. Even won a little money in a couple of local tournaments. When most folks were just pulling cranks for a couple of months and chasing fish, I was busy. As I was trolling cranks the last year there, another guy was drifting jigs and getting some 2lb plus fish. No one else was trolling or drifting jigs, but they began to pay attention. There is always a different way to make a style work if you just try.
