    Moose.....
My favorite line in Louisiana waters (mostly stained or muddy) is Spiderwire Steath in 10 lb. test, 2 lb. diameter. It's smooth and doesn't have the rough texture of the original Spiderwire, and is limp and has "0" memory. It's best feature is it's super sensitivity at any depth. The down side is low visibility, but to me the good outweighs the bad, and I've had good results with it. In clearer water, I like Stren in clear blue 6 lb. test.

    Good luck.....

Default Iron Silk vs Trilene XL

    big "E":

I was skeptcal at first too. But let me tell you that this Iron Silk is smooth and does not have line twist like the Trilene XL. I have been using Trilene XL for over 15 years now and I swore it was the best fishing line. So I thought. I have always had twists occure in the line and loops come off the reel that caused me untold amount of problems. The Iron Silk has solved all those problems for me.

Yesterday I went fishing and was using two different rods and reels. One had IronSilk loaded and the other was loaded with the Trilene XL. I had more problems with the Trilene XL outfit. Constant loops all day long. Even though I was not casting out very far I still had tangles with the Trilene XL line. (6lb test).

NOTE: I use a line minder to install my fishing line on my reels to avoid line twist.
NOTE 2: The Berkely Trilene XL seems to have a lot of memory and it's coiled even after it's out over the water. I think that this is the cause of a lot of my problems in the past. The Trilene XL line comes in two spool sizes. One is about 110yards and the other is about 300 yards. I can't use my line winder with the larger spools. So I have to take the line off the larger spool and put it on an empty smaller spool first. The diameter of the larger spool creates larger memory loops also. Large loops tend to come off the smaller untra light opened faced spinning reels that I use.

Bottom Line is that you get 300+ yards of IronSilk (6lb test) for about $7. To me that is well worth the price. I also thought at first that the price was a lot but after using it and finding it's to be superior and easier to use it worth the extra dollars.

Remember that fishing time is precious and I like to think that anything that makes my time on the water more fun and productive is worth a few extra dollars.

:p Well I might as well get started posting on this new board! I live and die by Fireline! The only thing I would ever use Mono for ever again, is when I am fishing for trout. I used to be a die hard Trilene XL man. I don't miss line twist, birds nests, line stretch, and poor knot strenght a bit! My choice is the 6lb in Flame Green - simply awesome!

One easy method to help get P-Line onto your reel without becoming a twisty mess is to have a 2nd person put tention on the line by running it through a wet rag. This will help it lay on the real better too, but is does seem to increase the memory as well. Full baskets to all!

Thanks for the reply Moose, I think I might give it a try , seeing as how I did cuss my line a little last weekend. The comment about time being precious really puts it into perspective.I fish one night a week , so every bit helps.Eric.
