This is an old topic I came across last weekend while researching reels for pushing jigs. I liked the idea of the flipping switch on the Gen 2 silvermax reel, like in Rickie's video.
Doing some more digging the newer ABU GARCIA STX reel has this style of flipping switch again. Went to Sportsman Warehouse to play around with the left and right hand models. I haven't used a baitcaster before so I'm not used to one or the other. I found the left handed one worked better for me, although I'm right handed.
Ordered 4 of the left hand models from amazon, ABU is doing some kind of sale on them right now. Left handed reels can be had for $40 shopping around some and right handed a couple bucks less than that.
Just wanted to add some info in case someone else happens to be looking for the same info.
One note I would add since this thread has resurfaced ...
Several models of bait casting reels (that don’t even have the flipping switch feature) can easily re-engage the spool by a quick upward pressure of the thumb bar with one’s thumb “under” the thumb bar and still not use the handle to re-engage the spool ...
